about

Chairs’ second full-length album, The Droning of an Insect Wing, was recorded and mixed entirely by Ian Jarvis in his Montreal home studio. It came together slowly over the past two years when he wasn’t busy traveling back and forth across the country, busying himself with several musical projects other than his own. A member of Calgary’s Ghostkeeper, he spent a large part of 2011 working on the bands third album as well as spending a month and a half on the road with band mate Jay Crocker’s solo project. At home in Montreal he is member of You, yourself, and I and the 60s rock/bossa nova outfit EXPWY.
Droning guides the listener through an intricately woven, low-fi patchwork of acoustic and electric guitars, drum machines, live drums, synths and samples while keeping a strong pop sensibility at the forefront.
Live, Jarvis is joined by Matt Legroulx (EXPWY) on guitar and keyboards, Daniel Gelinas (You,yourself and I) on drums, and Elliot Kerr on bass.

"The record flows from rumbling rock rhythms to delicate pop melodies with ease......Repeated listens will bear much fruit for your hungry ears."
-Quick Before it Melts

"A terrific album from a very exciting new artist" -Silent Shout

"Jarvis has one of those innate abilities to craft likable pop tunes in a multitude of styles ranging from folk to experimental electronic sounds. The Droning of an Insect Wing covers a lot of ground without sounding staggered or disjointed." -Portals

" The Droning of an Insect Wing is a supremely interesting mix of fractured folk and subtle layers of noise." -Herohill

"Pour qui aime les enrobages lo-fi et la pop sans âge, The Droning of an Insect Wing est assez irrésistible. " -Nightlife Magazine
